Have you ever imagined a place where people take midday naps, drink wine with lunch, and dance all night?
I am here to tell you, this place exists.
Welcome to Spain - the land of excellent wine, long siestas, and gourmet tapas.
We are almost one week into our new life abroad and have settled into San Sebastián, a cozy town on the northern coast. We are staying with Ernie, a guy we just met, and his apartment is only two blocks from the beach. We will call this place home for the next few weeks.
Everyday I am proud to remember and successfully practice more Spanish; today I successfully ordered a grilled cheese and a beer. I even complimented the waitress on her cute leggings!
Life in Spain is anything but fast and stressful. We spend our days sleeping in, surfing, napping, and dancing until the early hours of the morning. It took us a few days to adjust to life here since most people in Spain don't eat dinner until after nine, but we have quickly fallen in love with this slow-paced country.
We have also fallen in love with new friends from all around the world. On Thursday nights, our street shuts down and all the restaurants offer two euro pintxos (tapas) and drinks. We met up with a group of new friends to go out. This group included people from Spain, Australia, Canada, Belgium, Germany, and the USA. Altogether we spoke six languages and we spent the entire night hopping around bars and dancing. We didn't get home until three in the morning.
Dancing into the early hours of the morning with new friends from all around the world is one of the most exhilarating and beautiful experiences. I even convinced Anthony to let go and dance it out - he owned the dance floor!
This city is a little slice of paradise.
